Trafford South Foodbank centre's have unfortunately seen an increase in clients again this year across all our Centres. We have successfully helped over 1030 clients since May this year.

We not only support our clients with food and a listening ear but also offer advice and access to other services for problems such as debt management and substance abuse.

We have five distribution centre's in total - Timperley, Sale West, Sale Moor, Altrincham and Partington.

The foodbank continues to use the scout hut at the rear of the church as a warehouse facility to store and distribute the food to each centre every week, with a group of volunteers working every Wednesday and Friday.

If you would like to make a donation to our charity, there is a food collection trolley at the front of TMC where items can be left at any time. Should you prefer to make a cash donation, please visit https://www.wonderful.org/charity/traffordsouthfoodbank

to make a free one off cash donation.

I start this month's newsletter with the sad news that on the 7th July we will be having a service laying down the colours of the 7thBBColoursService Altrincham Boys brigade.  In May we had a Reunion of former members and officers of the 7th which was well attended.  Whilst it is sad that we have been unable to keep this Company going, we also celebrate the work and influence of this Company on the many boys that have been a part of it over the years giving thanks for all who have been officers and members within it.

Churchattheheart

Welcome back!!

Wow, it seems a long time since I wrote a newsletter - and it is. The last one was in the long forgotten June would you believe? I hope you all had a good summer and are now back in the swing of things, especially as a whole half term has now passed. Now we are hurtling towards Christmas!

A busy few months in the life of Timperley Methodist Church:

Our annual Holiday Club this year was fantastic yet again. We had a Beach Party, and spent time together learning stories about Jesus. We heard the story of His baptism, how He called His first disciples, the parable of the wise and foolish builders, the miracle of how Jesus fed 5000 people and finally how He walked on water. We had one beach rule each day to help us remember the story. They were 'bring joy', 'listen when you're called', 'be careful where you build your sandcastle', 'share your picnic' and 'be brave'. We also had lots of fun worshipping together, playing games, making crafts and we even had a Godly Play session. Again, we were blessed with a fantastic team of adults and an amazing group of young people. We all look forward to next year, Emergency Rescue, where we will be learning stories of how God has rescued His people.
Emergency Rescue will run from
Monday 27th July 2020 - Friday 31st July 2020
A massive WELL DONE to Catherine and the Team of helpers/volunteers that as always make this a roaring success and without whom the Holiday Club would not happen. You're the best.

We supported, as usual, the Timperley Country Fair by having the kids activity in the middle of the field where craft activities were available to children. Again thanks to those who helped Jackie, our Children's and Family Worker, in running this.

Messy Church

We had a great Messy Church session last week. Thanks to all parents who came with their little ones to hear about pets and what God promises us in his kingdom. 64 children came along. Thanks to all who led the crafts and prepared food, and once again to Jackie.

We had a church family BBQ. It was lovely to get together as a church family and share in food and be entertained by a variety of folk from the church.

Our Tuesday Luncheon Club is back in the full swing providing a cooked lunch, and our uniformed organisations are back with their weekly schedule. The Girls' Brigade meet on Wednesdays and we have Rainbows, Brownies and Guides meeting on Mondays and Thursdays. Don't forget the Girl's Brigade are still collecting and recycling Crisp Packets. Drop them off when we're open. There's a collection box in the foyer of the Cornerstone at the front of church.

Our Dementia Drop-in Musical Memories meet Thursday afternoon, sharing and enjoying friendship through the sharing of music and our Knit&natter Club meet on a Wednesday afternoon to , well, Knit and natter. Recently one of the charities that this group supports won an international award. The Liverpool Seafarers Centre was crowned the world’s best seafarers centre. The charity, based in Crosby and Eastham on the Wirral, was singled out by the International Seafarer Welfare Awards due to the exceptional care it offers visiting seafarers and their families. LSC finished top ahead of seafarer centres in America in Houston and Philadelphia as well as Sydney Australia and Tauranga, New Zealand. Well done John and team.

FoodbankOur support of Trafford South Foodbank continues and as ever we collect food and health products for distribution by the foodbank to those in desperate need within our society. Please leave your donations in the supermarket trolley in the entrance to Cornerstone

Christmas19

Lent is a very special time in the Christian calendar.  We don't just give up chocolate! It is the time when we remember the 40 days the Jesus fasted in the desert  It's a time for prayer and deepening our relationship with God.  We are encouraged to look again at the bible in fresh ways and to spend time in studying the Word od God, going on a spiritual journey.

This year at Timperley Methodist church we have a number of options available to us. The main one is following a lent retreat from the Ignatian Sprituality Centre, Glasgow, Journey into Freedom. For 40 days through Lent starting on Wednesday 26th February there will be daily readings, prayers and meditations to follow.  We will be publishing these each day on Facebook at https://www.facebook.com/methodist1908 or you can join us as part of a FaceBook Group, which you can find here: https://www.facebook.com/groups/2554419124826413/ please feel free to join in with us online each day. If you want to see the original website where you can sign upi to recieve this by daily email, please go to https://www.iscglasgow.co.uk/lent2020.html

As well as this there are weekly sessions on Wednesday mornings (9:0-10:30) at Timperley Methodist Church, Wedensday evenings (7:30-9:00) at THe Vine, Hale, and Saturday mornings (10:30-12noon) at Altrincham Methodist Church.  These group sessions are to support and encourage us and share what God is doing for us through this period of reflection. Of course these are not compulsory but it would be good to see as many as possible to share what God is doiing.

Other lent groups include the Timperley Churches Together group where we will be basing a study on the York Course written by David Wilbourne entitles 'Superstar'.  Theses run for 5 fridays at Timperley Methodist Church from 12:20 - 1:30 with a simple Lent Lunch.

Then we have a Sunday evening (from 6:30) study based on the film The Greatest Showman, From Now On. Again part of Timperley Churches Together these will be held at Holy Cross Church oon Park Road starting on 1st March.

We hope you find a group and a form of 'study' that suits you.  We'd love to hear from any who are taking partin this time as we move towards remembering the events of Holy Week and Easter.
