Youth Worker

Rachel1

The young people in our Church and community are very important to us. Our Youth Worker, Rachel Foster, is dedicated to working with the young people in the Methodist Churches in Timperley, Altrincham, Hale and Bowdon Vale.

Rachel has a masters degree in youth mission and over ten years experience in youth ministry, as well as having spent a short time as a secondary RE teacher. Her passions include developing the leadership of others - especially young leaders - and helping young people to reach their full potential as they follow Jesus more closely. She also enjoys meetings over hot chocolate and cake!

At Timperley we partner with our other local Methodist churches in Altrincham, Bowdon Vale and Hale to run a programme of activities for everyone aged 10-25. Not everything happens at our site on Stockport Road, because we think it's great to get together with other young people to have fun and think about big life questions. Off site we run a social youth club once a month called Crew Cafe at The Methodist Church on Priory Street in Bowdon Vale, and a group to explore faith every other week called SNG at The Vine on Hale Road. We also run trips and camps throughout the year.

Rachel is available at various times throughout the week and, if you would like help, support or a chat, please contact her.

Guides

Guides1     3rd Timperley Guide Unit is part of Girlguiding, the largest voluntary youth organisation for girls and young women in the UK.

"The aim of Guiding is to help girls and young women develop emotionally, mentally, physically and spiritually so that they can make a positive contribution to their community and the wider world".

The Guide section is for girls aged 10-14 years. We also have Rainbows (5-7yrs) and Brownies (7-10yrs) meeting at the Church.

The Guides spend time in their patrols (small groups) and have the opportunity to be responsible for the weekly programme and their part in it. They work on challenges and activities at the weekly meetings, the topics (which are called "Go-For-Its") currently cover such themes as:

Healthy Eating, Environmental Challenges, Fashion, Five Senses, Parties, Teamwork, Drama and Communication.

Along with these we also do such activities as cookery, games, fundraising and crafts etc.

Guides 21
Guides Tent crop1 Each year the unit offers the girls an opportunity to go away for a weekend, either as a unit or by joining other guide units from the local County. Previous camps and holidays have included an outdoor activity weekend near Lancaster, a weekend at Knowsley Safari Park and a County Summer Gig Camp.

As there are only a few local guide units in the area, 3rd Timperley Guides is currently full. However we do have a waiting list and are happy to have girls on the list before they are 10, so that hopefully we can offer them a place when they are old enough. Our unit meets on a Monday evening, but there are other local units that meet on other evenings if that is more convenient for you.

Girlguiding has recently changed its joining arrangements, and parents who wish to register their daughter's interest in joining a unit should now do this through the Girlguiding Join Us page:

https://www.girlguiding.org.uk/information-for-parents/register-your-daughter/

Can you help?

Girlguiding in our area is also looking for Young (16-18 yr old) and Adult Leaders to help with our weekly meetings and other activities. If you can spare some time to help in this way, please again use the website link above and register interest as a volunteer. We would be happy to see you!

rainbows logo1

Rainbows is all about developing self-confidence, building friendships, learning new things and having fun. Girls get their hands dirty with arts and crafts, trying out cooking and playing games. Rainbows is all about learning by doing and encouraging the girls to make their own choices.

Rainbows follow a programme called Roundabout Rainbows. There are several badges to earn within the programme that look at different parts of the girls' lives. They include 'All about me' 'The world' and 'Festivals'.

We also follow the theme of 'Look, Learn, Laugh and Love' and encourage the girls to come up with their own ideas for activities and outings.

To register your daughter's interest in joining 3rd Timperley Rainbows, please go to the Girlguiding website:
