Autumn 2019

Churchattheheart

Welcome back!!

Wow, it seems a long time since I wrote a newsletter - and it is. The last one was in the long forgotten June would you believe? I hope you all had a good summer and are now back in the swing of things, especially as a whole half term has now passed. Now we are hurtling towards Christmas!

A busy few months in the life of Timperley Methodist Church:

Our annual Holiday Club this year was fantastic yet again. We had a Beach Party, and spent time together learning stories about Jesus. We heard the story of His baptism, how He called His first disciples, the parable of the wise and foolish builders, the miracle of how Jesus fed 5000 people and finally how He walked on water. We had one beach rule each day to help us remember the story. They were 'bring joy', 'listen when you're called', 'be careful where you build your sandcastle', 'share your picnic' and 'be brave'. We also had lots of fun worshipping together, playing games, making crafts and we even had a Godly Play session. Again, we were blessed with a fantastic team of adults and an amazing group of young people. We all look forward to next year, Emergency Rescue, where we will be learning stories of how God has rescued His people.
Emergency Rescue will run from
Monday 27th July 2020 - Friday 31st July 2020
A massive WELL DONE to Catherine and the Team of helpers/volunteers that as always make this a roaring success and without whom the Holiday Club would not happen. You're the best.

We supported, as usual, the Timperley Country Fair by having the kids activity in the middle of the field where craft activities were available to children. Again thanks to those who helped Jackie, our Children's and Family Worker, in running this.

Messy Church

We had a great Messy Church session last week. Thanks to all parents who came with their little ones to hear about pets and what God promises us in his kingdom. 64 children came along. Thanks to all who led the crafts and prepared food, and once again to Jackie.

We had a church family BBQ. It was lovely to get together as a church family and share in food and be entertained by a variety of folk from the church.

Our Tuesday Luncheon Club is back in the full swing providing a cooked lunch, and our uniformed organisations are back with their weekly schedule. The Girls' Brigade meet on Wednesdays and we have Rainbows, Brownies and Guides meeting on Mondays and Thursdays. Don't forget the Girl's Brigade are still collecting and recycling Crisp Packets. Drop them off when we're open. There's a collection box in the foyer of the Cornerstone at the front of church.

Our Dementia Drop-in Musical Memories meet Thursday afternoon, sharing and enjoying friendship through the sharing of music and our Knit&natter Club meet on a Wednesday afternoon to , well, Knit and natter. Recently one of the charities that this group supports won an international award. The Liverpool Seafarers Centre was crowned the world’s best seafarers centre. The charity, based in Crosby and Eastham on the Wirral, was singled out by the International Seafarer Welfare Awards due to the exceptional care it offers visiting seafarers and their families. LSC finished top ahead of seafarer centres in America in Houston and Philadelphia as well as Sydney Australia and Tauranga, New Zealand. Well done John and team.

FoodbankOur support of Trafford South Foodbank continues and as ever we collect food and health products for distribution by the foodbank to those in desperate need within our society. Please leave your donations in the supermarket trolley in the entrance to Cornerstone

Coffee corner continues to run on Monday, Wednesday and Friday mornings between 10 and 12. Why not pop in for a cuppa and a chat.

Keep your eye open for the PCSO and Councillor drop in sessions which we have in the Cornerstone, usually on a Saturday morning. These are opportunities for you to bring issues and discuss your concerns about our local area to the attention of the police and Local Authority. The next one will be on Saturday 4th January from 10:30 till 12.
